LINC Grant Program

Supporting new collaborations

The Leading Innovations through New Collaborations (LINC) program provides dedicated funding for new research collaborations between early to mid-career researchers based at TRI and clinicians based at Metro South Health, Mater, or the Children’s Health Queensland (oncology Department). The scheme offers $50,000 grants to foster new translational research collaborations between researchers and clinicians.

In support of the LINC grant scheme, TRI runs networking events throughout the year to provide clinicians and researchers with opportunities to meet and learn more about each other’s research areas and collaboration opportunities.

Applications for 2024 Grant Rounds are now closed.

FAQs

The TRI Engagement team offer regular programs on clear communication of research and its potential impact. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions, for more information contact funding@tri.edu.au

What if I don’t have a clinical or scientific collaborator?

TRI’s engagement team may be able to assist in connecting you and our networking events are also designed to create collaboration opportunities.

Must the Principal Investigator/ clinician be from Metro South Health, Mater Health or CHQ?

Principal Investigators must be from these hospitals, however CIs from other hospitals are also eligible.

Does the collaboration have to be new?

Yes, to be eligible, this needs to be a new collaboration for the Principal Investigators. You are still eligible if your mentors or Group/Department leaders have previously collaborated.

Do I need a research plan developed to apply?

No. An outline of your project should be submitted with your application. Grant recipients have 12 months to develop their plan and secure necessary approvals.

Are past recipients welcome to apply again?

Yes. If you have previously been awarded a LINC Grant, you are able to submit new applications for new grant rounds.

Tips for Success

To write a successful grant application you need to be able to clearly communicate your research and its potential impact on healthcare, as well as understand the ecosystem surrounding it. Here are our top tips:

Make sure your application is simple, concise, and easy to understand

Do not use jargon or acronyms (ever!)

Explain the importance/ significance of your work to date and proposed work

Identify the healthcare problem and the difference your research can make

Consider engaging with a health consumer to gain their perspective
