TRI Story

The Translational Research Institute (TRI) began operation in 2012 with Emeritus Professor Ian Frazer AC, co-founder of the Gardasil cervical cancer vaccine, as our inaugural CEO.
The award-winning building was a $356 million joint investment by the Queensland and Federal Governments, the Atlantic Philanthropies, the Queensland University of Technology and The University of Queensland.

TRI was conceived as a world-class facility positioned to provide opportunities for links to patients and clinicians on the Princess Alexandra Hospital campus. It was born from the desire to bring collaboration to science, and directly impact the translation of research – from bench to bedside to bench.

TRI exists to....

Foster the research and development of critical medical breakthrough treatments, diagnostics and devices.

Provide a home for innovation and excellence – from small start-ups through to global health leaders.

Support industry, both Australia-wide and globally,
to expedite their product development and translation to market.

Provide access to government and regulatory bodies, grants and capital, commercialisation pathways, and state-of-the-art technology, facilities and resources.

All within an ecosystem fundamentally underpinned by excellence in discovery science.

Where students, early and mid-career researchers are mentored to become tomorrow’s scientific leaders.

TRI's first decade of success...

has led to medical innovation with global impact
delivering opportunities for advancement and innovation
through continuous learning from health consumers sharing their lived experience
with a common goal to improve outcomes for human health
creating hope in our communities.
